Why Passage of the Voting Rights Reconciliation Act Must Be a Priority for the HBCU, PBI, and General Higher Education Communities

As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing into law The Voting Rights Act, the most important civil rights legislation passed in the 20th Century, and as we are poised for the return of the 114th Congress, I urge members of the HBCU and PBI communities, as well as the higher education community at large, to prioritize bipartisan passage of a measure to restore the provisions of the Voting Rights Act that were gutted by the Supreme Court in 2013 in Shelby County v. Holder.
